Dear Colleague,

I’m offering a more concise update this month on the work of the VCCS Reengineering Taskforce. That’s a response to some feedback I am getting that some of the previous updates were too long.

That said, here are three things I think you need to know about our colleges and our reengineering work:

#1 Technological innovation is leading our reengineering work.

Ed Tech Magazine just published an article about how many of our reforms are based in new and emerging technologies, including our work to reduce textbook costs.

#2 Our impact and our responsiveness are attracting partners and investors

A Roanoke philanthropist and entrepreneur just invested $5 million with the Virginia Western Community College foundation. That inspired tremendous news coverage as well as editorials about the value of our work from the Roanoke Times and the Richmond Times-Dispatch.

#3 Reengineering is coming to a peer group meeting near you

Reengineering task force members are once again lining up to talk about their work at a number of VCCS peer groups being help this month and throughout the remainder of the academic year. Those sessions are just one of the ways we are working to ensure the reengineering conversation is inclusive and transparent.

We continue to update the VCCS Reengineering website regularly with the progress being made by the more than two-dozen workgroups. And I look forward to reading, responding and forwarding to the taskforce thoughts and ideas that are shared with me in response to this messages.

Sincerely,

Glenn DuBois
Chancellor
